  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. Separate 4 eggs. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, whisk 4 egg yolks with 1/4 cup sugar until pale and thick.
  4. Fold in 1/3 cup cake flour and 1/4 cup milk. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.
  5. Gently fold the meringue into the yolk mixture in three parts to maintain volume.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and tap gently to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
